The pretty, silky-smooth catgirl, sitting on top of the giant table in the middle of the forest, brought her last spoonful of spicy vegetable bake to her lips, and ate it with relish. That done, she licked round the inside of her earthenware bowl, her pink tongue lapping up every last scrap and trace of the delicious meal. Then she sat back, her food settling into her pleasantly full bare tummy, and breathed out a soft, feminine little sigh of pleasure.

Looming behind her, towering over her, the giantess smiled rather fondly.

To anyone unaccustomed to this scene, it would have appeared distinctly odd. It was a warm, sunny day in the forests of Felarya, just south of Jadong lake. The untamed rainforest was lush with greenery and life, and with the colours and song of bright cheerful birds. Yet standing incongruously within a small clearing, a few steps from the lake, was a gigantic long table, loaded down with cookery implements, pots and stacks of ingredients, a seemingly cluttered but carefully ordered workspace. To one side of the table, several giant, empty chairs. And on the grass, bags and boxes, and a carefully maintained fire ringed by stones, with a large pot suspended over it. It all belonged to the giant woman sitting there, busy chopping herbs with a large knife. A beautifully exotic woman with long red hair and warm bronze skin, she was wearing a light, elegant cornflower blue dress, cut just low enough at the neck to reveal a tantalising glimpse of bountiful cleavage. Her name was Temono.

At first glance, she might have seemed to be the only person present. Until an observer’s eye might be drawn to a flicker of movement on the tabletop. There, a small neko, no bigger than a human, sat contentedly, her bare legs stretched out on the wood, her little body arced backward and resting on her extended arms. Her head tilted back, and looking up at the giantess who had just fed her. The catgirl was young, in her late teens perhaps. She was utterly naked, her skin smooth and sun-kissed, with a healthy athletic build. Her hair was quite short, forest-green in colour. The giantess looked down at her, and smiled.

“Did you enjoy it?”

It was a rhetorical question. She just wanted to hear the neko, Eshel, say it.

Eshel grinned, a broad flash of pretty white teeth. “It was delicious! It was just… I don’t know how to say it. That little hint of spiciness, at the back of my mouth…” She sighed, happily.

Temono beamed, quietly pleased. The small catgirl was one of her most regular customers. Over time, she had been educating Eshel’s palate, teaching her how to appreciate good, well-prepared food. Its subtle, myriad flavours; its scents and aesthetically pleasing visual patterns. Civilising the pretty, carefree little savage, by introducing her to the culinary arts. And, through her, getting other members of the catgirl’s tribe to civilise their diet a little. She was quite pleased with her success.

She only hoped Eshel wouldn’t get eaten any time soon by one of the bigger, uncivilised predators inhabiting this barbaric, stone age world. That would be a waste of effort, and potential. Eshel was still a wild little primitive, of course, but she was now at least partly cultivated, thanks to Temono’s own patient efforts. It would be a shame if she were devoured by some brutish, mindless predator. If that happened, Temono would likely lose all contact and culinary influence over the little creature’s tribe.

“Dessert is ready, if you’d like it,” she offered. And was glad to see the little creature’s eyes light up with anticipation. Eshel sat up straight. Her dark brown furry ears pricked up, while her tail, the same colour, swished with languid excitement.

“Ooh, please!” she said, politely. “I’ve still got a bit of room, I think.” She placed her hand on her rather full-looking bare tummy.

Temono rinsed the creature’s spoon and bowl for her, then filled the latter with more food. “Mixed fruit purée,” she announced. “Warm. With raisins, and a sprinkling of citrus rind.” She handed it to her. The fragile, eager little creature took the bowl gladly, and began to gobble down her dessert. “Eat more slowly,” Temono told her, mildly, trying not to sound annoyed. “Take your time to savour it. You’re in no rush.”

It was not the first time she had told her. Eshel always ate quickly. Force of habit, no doubt. The small thing had spent her entire life in the jungle, snatching and eating whatever food she could, while avoiding predators. To actually sit still and savour the experience, safely, was a luxury.

The catgirl wolfed down her warm fruit purée, eating it up with obvious enjoyment, then licked her bowl round again, unashamedly, and licked her lip. “Mmm, yummy!” she exhaled, happily. “Thank you!”

“You’re very welcome,” Temono said, with a touch of fondness. At least the little neko was always polite.

Eshel licked the last traces of smeared fruit juice off her fingers, not wanting to waste a single little bit of that lovely flavour, then sat back on the table with a deep sigh of contentment, as the bulk of her food settled, warmly satisfying, in her stuffed tummy. After a moment, she lay down, on her back, resting her folded arms beneath the back of her head. She felt satiated, and perfectly at ease.

Idly, she gazed up at the attractive giantess, watching her chop herbs. It was sort of weird that Temono liked making food for people, like this. But Eshel certainly wasn’t going to complain, nor indeed ask too many questions. She was happy just to make the most of it, for as long as it might last. It had also puzzled her at first that Temono, who so clearly enjoyed making and eating delicious food –while remaining beautifully slender!– had shown no apparent wish to eat her. She had wondered about it, and then one day, she had simply asked her. Temono had told her, with a faint hint of condescension in her smile, that nekos’ natural flavour was “rather bland”.

Eshel had been startled, and instantly rather insulted. Telling her that her flavour might be “bland” was rather like saying she looked ugly. It was unexpected, and unkind. She had brooded over it for quite a while, feeling hurt.

Eventually, though, she had decided to forgive the giantess for the no doubt unintended slight. And they had got on perfectly well ever since.

She dozed for a while, in the warmth of the sunlit air, bathed in the mouth-watering fragrance of whatever Temono was cooking now. Her tightly stretched, softly bulging bare tummy gurgled softly, as she began to digest her very filling, delicious lunch. Eventually, she dozed off, on Temono’s table, breathing peacefully as she slept.

* * *

She was woken by a pattering of warm rain. Her eyelids flickered, and she flinched as a raindrop splatted against one of her closed eyes. The rain splashed over her bare, warm skin. She opened her eyes, shielding them from the rain with her arm, and sat up. As she did so, the now mostly liquefied contents of her stomach lapped and glugged against the inner walls of her belly; she exhaled a small, quiet urrp.

“Have you slept well?” Temono asked, sounding amused.

Eshel yawned, stretching her arms, and got to her feet, still a little sleepily. She turned to where the giantess was stirring something in a pot over the fire. It smelled lovely, but she was no longer hungry. She was still digesting her lunch, and there was a very nice aftertaste of fruit in her mouth.

“Yes, thanks. I needed it, I think. I was utterly stuffed.” She smiled.

Temono smiled back, slightly. “I’m always glad to see good food being appreciated.” She paused in her stirring. “If you come back in, say, three days, I’ll be sure I have some fish ready to cook. I’ve got some herbs and condiments you haven’t tried yet. I think you’ll enjoy it.”

“Ooh!” Eshel laughed. “Okay, I’ll be here.” She stretched again, working the feeling back into her limbs after her post-prandial siesta. “For now, though, I’d best be going. Could you put me down on the grass?”

Temono nodded, reached across the table, and picked her up. Eshel barely flinched. Her instincts still flared against being held by a giant predator, but she had become quite used to it. Temono stood, walked round the table, and set her down gently on the thick, lush damp grass. Then straightened up, towering above her, absolutely immense.

“Try not to get yourself eaten,” the giantess told her. “Stay away from predators, instead of provoking them.”

Eshel grinned, toothily. “Aww, where would the fun be in that?”

Temono sighed. “At least try to persuade others in your tribe to come here more often.”

“I will,” the catgirl promised, lightly. Then smiled, and skipped off, light-hearted, between the trees. In the light rain. Towards the lake.

* * *

Barefoot, naked, Eshel strolled along the edge of the lake, her feet sinking comfortably into the wet grasses. She liked it here. She had to be careful, of course; predators came here to drink, not to mention those that lived in the lake. But it felt peaceful, the bright sunlight scintillating on the water. The canopy above her rustling in a soft warm breeze. Her ears twitched, identifying the sound of the leaves, and making sure it was produced by nothing more dangerous than a light wind.

Her eyes darted automatically at any patch of shadow, and at everything to her sides or above her. Any flicker of movement. Anything that might look out of place. Honed by years of survival in this environment, it had become a subconscious reflex, something she did not even need to think about. She checked the safety of her surroundings, every few moments, and then allowed herself to relax long enough to soak in the lake’s simple, peaceful beauty.

As she watched, a figure rose from the water, some distance from the shore. She tensed, as the giant mermaid broke the surface and looked straight at her, water dripping from her bare blue skin and her long, wet black hair. Eshel poised herself for flight, her legs crouching a little, adrenaline beginning to fire up through her body. The mermaid cocked her head, but made no move to come closer. Yet.

For several seconds, they looked at each other in silence.

“Hello,” the mermaid said at last, and offered a friendly smile.

“Hello,” Eshel said, warily. It was well past lunchtime, she told herself. Perhaps the mermaid had already eaten, and was not hungry. But she was certainly not going to assume that.

“What are you doing there?” the gigantic, pretty fish-woman asked, amiably.

Eshel moistened her lips, remaining poised to run, into the cover of the trees. “Having a walk.”

The mermaid smiled. “Oh, I see. That’s nice.” She paused. “It’s pleasant here, isn’t it?”

“Yes.”

Another pause. “My name’s Mina,” the mermaid supplied, after a moment.

“I’m Eshel.”

“Eshel,” Mina repeated. “Mm. That’s a nice name. It’s sort of…” She made a strange little motion with her jaw, as though working the sound around inside it. “It’s sort of… smooth.”

The catgirl smiled. “Thank you.” She paused, and tilted her head in turn. “Are you out looking for lunch?”

Surprised, Mina hesitated. A few seconds too long. “N-no, I’ve already eaten,” she said, at last.

Eshel’s smile broadened. “You’re a terrible liar. You’re hungry, aren’t you?”

A blush touched the pretty mermaid’s face. “Uh, m-maaaaybe?” She looked understandably puzzled. “Why are you asking?”

The neko played her tongue over her teeth. “Would you like to have me for lunch?” she suggested, teasingly.  She struck a pose, invitingly.

Mina stared at her, her eyes widening. “Wh-what?”

“Would you like to have me for lunch?” Eshel repeated, a bright playful smile on her lips.

“Uh…” Astonished, the mermaid took several moments to compose herself. “Y-yes? I mean… Are you offering?”

Eshel grinned. “No,” she said. “You’d have to catch me first. And you’re not going to.”

Mina shook her head, baffled. “Then why did you–?” She stopped. And frowned a little. “Are you just teasing me?”

“Mm-hm!” Eshel laughed, lightly. “You’re out of range, too far to catch me. You want me for lunch, but you can’t have me. It’s kind of tempting to tease.”

Mina pouted. “Well, don’t, please! It’s mean.”

The catgirl giggled. “Oh, come on! Look.” She changed her pose, standing with her legs spread out a bit, and put her right hand on her hip. She ran her left hand through her short green hair, and arced back a little, showing off her chest. “Don’t I look yummy? You’d love to eat me up if you could. Wouldn’t you?”

Mina scowled. “Stop it.”

Mmm, I’m so tasty!” Eshel stretched out her arm, languidly, and licked it. “Ooh! Yummy little neko!” She looked at her, and grinned. “Standing right here. Ready to be gobbled up… if you can just catch me.”

The mermaid said nothing this time. She was watching her. Even from a distance, there was a thoughtful, calculating look on her face. Eshel felt a little thrill. She’s wondering how she can catch me.

“That’s right,” she cooed at the pretty mermaid, encouragingly. “See if you can get me. I’m worth it. I promise I’m worth it.” She licked her other arm, enticingly, and breathed out a little moan of mock pleasure. “Oooh…”

Mina licked her lips. Her eyes fixed upon her, rather intently. “You’re just one neko,” she said at last. “You wouldn’t even be filling. I’d still have to catch some fish, afterwards.”

“Oh, but I taste better than fish, don’t I?” Eshel purred, teasingly. “You must be tired of eating fish all the time. A neko would taste much better. Especially a feisty little one like me.” She shifted her legs, and put both hands on her hips. “You’d rather have me than fish, right?”

Mina bit her lip. “Yes.”

Eshel grinned. “Right! Of course you would. I’m delicious.” She licked her own lips. “Mm-mmmm… Just think of it. The taste of me in your mouth…”

The mermaid said nothing.

“I’d wriggle, on your tongue,” Eshel breathed at her, loud enough to be head. “Rubbing my flavour in.” She made a sinuous, sensuous squirming motion, showing off her smooth bare body. “All my yummy flavour, in your mouth. If you just catch me, you can suck on me as long as you like.”

The mermaid edged imperceptibly closer. Perhaps hoping her intended prey wouldn’t notice. Eshel smiled, and pretended not to have seen. She ran her hands sensuously over her naked body, and wagged her tongue at the giant fish-girl, playfully.

“I’ve been sunbathing,” she told her. “I’m all warm and toasty. I bet that makes me taste even yummier.” She took a step closer to the water, and leaned towards it. “I bet that makes me taste irresistible.”

Mina licked her lips again. “If you stay there and keep on teasing me, I am going to eat you,” she warned.

Eshel grinned. “You can’t catch me. You’re too far, and I’m too quick.”

Mina smiled, seeming amused now by the bold, very appetising catgirl. “You’re sure about that, are you?”

“Mm-hm!”

“If you’re wrong, I’ll eat you.”

“Yes.” She grinned. “Go on, tell me how much you’d like that. That you’d like to eat me all up.”

Mina laughed. “I’d like to eat you up,” she said, playing along. And giggled. “You’re a weird little catgirl, you know? I don’t think I’ve ever eaten one like you before.”

“You haven’t eaten me yet,” Eshel smiled.

“No, but I’m going to.” Mina paused, as they looked at each other, amiably. “How about a game?” she offered.

Eshel cocked her head. She ran her hand slowly over her smooth, athletic right leg, drawing the mermaid’s gaze to it. She made a squirming motion again, a sexy feminine wriggle. Just to keep Mina’s appetite up. “What sort of game?”

“Hmm… A guessing game? If I win, I get to eat you. If you win, I’ll… give you some gems. I’ve got some really nice ones. From the river.”

Eshel giggled. “That doesn’t entirely sound fair. Really, if I win, I should eat you.”

The giant mermaid looked faintly concerned for a brief moment, then relaxed. “Don’t be silly,” she chided, with a faint blush of embarrassment at her instant’s hesitation.

“I think you should just try to catch me,” Eshel offered, encouragingly. “That’s a game too. You try to catch me, and I see how fast I can run away. If you win, you get a yummy little neko for your lunch.” Mina was still edging very discreetly closer. Eshel looked her in the eyes. The mermaid’s eyes were a lovely dark blue, and watching her with intense, focused, unmistakable hunger. Eshel licked her lips at her again, enticingly. “And here’s the bonus,” she breathed. “I’m a real wriggler. At night, I wriggle so much, I almost fall out of the tree. I’m just so full of energy.” She hopped on one foot, then the other, and stretched, jutting out her chest. “I’m a tasty little packet of energy, that’s me. I’d wriggle on your tongue.” She looked her right in the eyes. “When you swallow me, I’ll squirm aaall the way down your throat.” She saw Mina give a little shiver of anticipated pleasure, and she grinned. “That’s right,” she purred. “I’ll squirm as I go down.” She swayed her hips, offering the mermaid an impromptu and very appetising little belly dance. “And I’ll wriggle and wriggle and wriggle inside your tummy! I’ll be the tastiest little neko you’ve ever eat–”

She stopped, abruptly. Off to her left, right near the shore, another giant mermaid had just burst up through the water, breaking the surface. Eshel turned, alarmed, to face this new and unexpected threat. The new mermaid rose, water streaming from her blue skin, her long wet black hair… What? For a few moments, Eshel’s mind froze with startled confusion. The mermaid that had just risen so close to her, she saw, was Mina herself. But… how…?

Trap! She whirled round again, to face the initial Mina, in time to see the giant mermaid swimming astonishingly fast towards her. The other mermaid disappeared in an eyeblink. A mere image. An illusion. A distraction.

Mina had known exactly what she was doing. Eshel’s heart leapt within her chest, pumping adrenaline through her body. She was now in very real danger. She turned, and ran, sprinting as fast as her lithe, athletic legs would carry her, through the undergrowth, into the forest. Behind her, rushing through the water, the gigantic mermaid was closing in fast.

Eshel crashed through the bushes, jumping and skipping over tree roots and vegetation. Her nimble bare feet carrying her away from the water. Away from the mermaid who now very, very much wanted to eat her, her appetite heightened by the catgirl’s playful teasing. Despite the intense danger, Eshel grinned as she ran. That had been fun!

Behind her, she heard a rush of waves. Mina had reached the shore. Her sharp ears pricked, tilting backwards, as she heard the sounds of the giant mermaid lifting herself up onto wet ground. Eshel’s heart thumped, and she went on running. Her would-be eater wasn’t giving up.

After a few moments, hearing no tell-tale sound of crashing vegetation behind her, she stopped, turned, and dared to look back. Mina had beached herself, and had crawled a short distance into the forest, before stopping, with a dejected expression on her face. They looked at each other – Eshel a safe distance once more.

“Nice try!” the catgirl said, pleasantly. “And nice trick. You gave me quite a scare.”

Mina pouted, annoyed, although her frustrated expression soon broke into a smile. She, too, could appreciate the lightness of the situation. “You’re quick,” she said. “Well done.”

“I kind of have to be.”

“Yes, I suppose.” Mina moistened her upper lip, keeping her lovely blue eyes on her. “Will you… be coming back to the lake at any point?”

Eshel laughed, lightly. “Probably, yes.”

Mina smiled, brightly. “Good. I’ll eat you next time, then.”

“If you can catch me. You’ll see, I’m worth the effort.” She gave her own right forearm another quick, enticing lick. “Yummy, yummy!” They grinned at each other.

“See you around, little neko!” Mina laughed, as she crawled backwards, a little awkwardly, into the water. “Don’t let anyone else eat you before I can.”

Eshel swayed her hips at her – one last appetising little wriggle. And gave her a friendly grin. She watched, as the mermaid disappeared back into the lake. She looked around, making sure there was no other immediate threat, and allowed herself to relax, just a little.

“Whew…” she breathed. And grinned, catching her breath as the adrenaline faded inside her. That had been close. And definitely fun.

“I’ve still got it,” she whispered to herself, pleased. No matter what Temono might say, she felt, at that moment, satisfyingly delicious.

END
This is a short one. Rather different in tone from the previous.

Temono belong to :iconravana3k:. Mina belongs to :iconprinnydood-abides:. The world of Felarya, of course, is :iconkarbo:'s creation.

The character of Eshel is my own. She previously appeared very briefly in Story 125.

XD Oh thank you for reminding me why Mina is scarier than Anko on a good day. Anko has a high capture rate, but Mina is sneaky and plot loving. You can never tell what she has up her proverbial sleeves. Eshel is a LUCKY neko. Even I, an avid reader of Mina's storys forgot she could make illusions!. o.o;; It was more than fool hardy to tease her.
